The Certificate in Herbal Studies is designed to educate and train students in the cultivation of medicinal herbs and the manufacture of herbal products. It is a commercial qualification aimed at creating business opportunities within the herbal industry. It is also a staircase option into the Diploma in Clinical Herbal Medicine, with seven of the courses eligible for cross credit.
The qualification is mainly studied through distance learning with a comprehensive set of manuals, a CD ROM for plant identification and a number of field trips.
Entry Requirements
The College prefers applicants to have NCEA Level 3 in English, Biology and Chemistry.
Students for whom English is a second language must have achieved English IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600 in reading, comprehension, writing and speaking to an academic level or equivalent. Proficiency must be demonstrated prior to being accepted on the course.
Entry is by consideration of all criteria.
Requirements for an Award
To be eligible for the award of Certificate in Herbal Studies, a candidate will successfully complete all courses with a passing grade of not less that 60% in all assessments.
