Qualification Overview
For centuries, massage has been part of the healing arts. The Diploma in Massage Therapy is a professional qualification with a balance of academic and practical requirements that incorporates clinical training through the College Clinic. The practical aspects of the qualification are grounded in a thorough study of anatomy and physiology, and pathology. Students build on basic remedial techniques, learning a variety of skills to enable them to work with a wide range of conditions and age groups.The qualification is designed to educate students to become professional massage therapists.
The qualification is studied on campus.
Entry Requirements
The College prefers applicants to have NCEA Level 3 in English, Biology and Chemistry. Applicants without the appropriate academic background will be advised of ways they can meet the entry criteria.An Introduction to Anatomy & Physiology and Introduction to Massage will be required for applicants without the appropriate background education or experience.
Students for whom English is a second language must have achieved English IELTS 6.5 or TOEFL 600 in reading, comprehension, writing and speaking to an academic level or equivalent. Proficiency must be demonstrated prior to being accepted on the course.
Entry is by consideration of all criteria and interview.
A current first aid certificate is required prior to commencing home practicum

18 months full time or up to 5 years part time.Requirements for an Award
To be eligible for the award of Diploma in Massage Therapy, a candidate will successfully complete all the courses with a passing grade of not less that 70%.
